Selecting the best choice in the full information group interview problem
نویسنده
چکیده
We consider the problem of selecting the single best choice when several groups of choices are presented sequentially for evaluation. In the so-called group interview problem, we assume that the values of choices are random observations from a known distribution function and derive the optimal search strategy that maximizes the probability of selecting the best among all choices. Under the optimal search strategy derived by means of a dynamic programming technique, a decision maker simply selects the best choice in the group under consideration if its value is higher than the pre-speci®ed decision value for that group. We also consider the optimal ordering strategy for the case where the decision maker is permitted to rearrange the sequence of groups for evaluation. We show that the optimal search and ordering strategies can be applied to many sequential decision problems such as the store location problem. Ó 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Generalized best choice problem based on the information economics approach
We consider the problem of choosing the ‘best choice’ among a certain number of objects that are presented to a decision-maker in sequential order. Such a sequential selection problem is commonly referred to as the ‘best choice problem’, and its optimal stopping rule has been obtained either via the dynamic programming approach or via the Markovian approach. Based on the theory of information e...
متن کاملOptimal partitioning of groups in selecting the best choice
This article deals with the group interview problem, in which each group contains several alternatives and each group of alternatives is presented and evaluated sequentially over time. We derive the optimal selection strategy for the group interview problem with a general utility function. Among the various types of utility function, we focus on the best choice problem, in which our utility is ...

Redundancy allocation problem is one of most important problems in reliability area. This problem involves with the suitable redundancy levels under certain strategies to maximizing system reliability under some constraints. Many changes have been made on this problem to draw the problem near to real situations. Selecting the redundancy strategy, using different system configuration are some of...
متن کاملSelecting the Best Fit Model in Cognitive Diagnostic Assessment: Differential Item Functioning Detection in the Reading Comprehension of the PhD Nationwide Admission Test
This study was an attemptto provide detailed information of the strengths and weaknesses of test takers‟ real ability through cognitive diagnostic assessment, and to detect differential item functioning in each test item. The rationale for using CDA was that it estimates an item‟s discrimination power, whereas clas- sical test theory or item response theory depicts between rather within item mu...
متن کاملAnalysis of the Utility of Economic Sectors in Achieving Agricultural Development: Applying an Analytic Hierarchy Process
ABSTRACT- According to article 44 of the I.R. of Iran Constitution, the Iranian economy consists of three sectors; the state, the cooperative, and the private sectors. The aim of this study was to present a hierarchy of criteria for selecting the best economic sector for agricultural development. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used to calculate the relative importance of either criteria o...
